It seems we've been losing features at an alarming rate here on the zone. Victims have been custom logins (fixed)
site stats, (still gone)
and even make a new friend. (still down)
yeah, include a fully functioning quicknote history also.
which feature do you guys think will be next. Give good reasons.
I'll start by saying the last 100 logins. That page seems to be the longest to load. It probably isn't used very much to begin with. So, will that be the first to go?

well I've noticed with quicknote history, the archive is only from November; is that what you mean? I'd guess it's not practical to keep the entire quicknote history cos of space and all that.

The issue is with how long it takes to look through all the quicknotes. There are 5.1 million quicknotes in total, which would take a very long time to search through. Contrast that with the 269,361 quicknotes sent in the last 90 days, a much more manageable number. The stats that concern total numbers of quicknotes take a while to run and slow down the rest of the site. Make A New Friend runs a lot of queries behind the scenes and is really slow by nature.

I can say that at least the stats will come back in some form, as soon as I get a chance to work on them. I can't make any promises about Make A New Friend.

Now that we're starting to see larger numbers of people on the site, we have to balance features with speed. I see the responses when things lag by a few seconds. "Something is broken!" "I hate this site!" "It's always so slow!" when (and we keep detailed statistics) page load times are pretty under control.

Hi Chris N,

Personally I have found that The Zone BBS moves rather quickly..

Once in awhile I've noticed a slowness and then usually it can be noted that in that case to logg out for awhile and alllow for things to catch up as it were. No complaints here Chris N. This is a nice place to visit. You Go! and try not to allow the "scrooges" to get ya down in spirit.smile

i think the quiz system.

no one ever goes there anymore, and most of them are broken anyway.

plus, now with the new (working) trivia game, who needs it?

We only remove things that are broken in some way. Look at the conference system. Unfortunately no one uses it, but we leave it...hoping that one day...
